Postdoc position in Microfluidics open

We are pleased to announce an opening 3-years position for a postdoctoral researcher to join the HetCatFlow project. The successful candidate will work on the implementation of a new method to perform heterogeneous catalysis in continuous flow reactors by using flow reactors that do not have solid walls, but instead, have liquid walls due to magnetic confinement of an immiscible magnetic (ferro)fluid.

We seek highly motivated and autonomous person with a PhD Degree in Chemical engineering, Materials Science, Applied Physics, or related fields, and with a solid background in flow chemistry and hands-on experience in lab-scale prototyping.

See contact for instructions on preparing a good application and send your cover letter highlighting their interest in the position, your CV (including publications list), a short description of previous research (1-2 Pages), and the name and contact address (email) of two former principal investigators.

The key work on this research line was published in:

A.A.Dev, P.Dunne, T.M.Hermans, B.Doudin*, Fluid drag reduction by magnetic confinement, Langmuir 2022, 38, 2, 719–726.

Lets apply!

New PhD position open

We are hiring!

We offer a four-year contract to pursue a PhD title in the framework of a project focused on the implementation of a new method to perform heterogeneous catalysis in continuous flow reactors by using wall-less tubes.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Materials Engineering, Chemistry, or similar.
  • A good level of spoken and written English.
  • Will be highly evaluated: knowledge in characterization techniques and previous experience in researching.

Please reach out as soon as possible! You will enroll in a 4 year PhD program at the Autonomous University of Madrid, but will work full time at IMDEA Nanociencia.

All applications must be sent to hlab.nanociencia@imdea.org, and must include: your cover letter, CV and academic transcripts. Reference letters are always appreciated.

Deadline for applications: 30th September, 2024

Now recruiting: PhD student, 2 Postdocs!

We are urgently looking for:

1) Recently graduated MSc students in chemistry to work on any of our topics (see Research). The student should have a diploma from a Spanish university, have grades in the top 10-20% of your cohort, have a DNI / NIE, and digital signature. Please reach out as soon as possible! You will enroll in a 3-4 year PhD program at the Autonomous University of Madrid, but will work full time at IMDEA Nanociencia. Deadline extended! You can still apply!

2) Postdoc to work on chemically fuelled supramolecular polymers to achieve micro-meter scaled supramolecular robots. This is funded by our latest ERC-Consolidator Grant. Your background is in chemical reactions cycles, supramolecular polymers, microfluidics, confocal microscopy (or a combination of those, or related to those). See contact for instructions on preparing a good application. Deadline is extended.

3) Postdoc to work on dissipative self-assembly of perylenediimide derivatives controlled by electrochemical oxidation and reduction. You should be handy in the fabrication of electrochemical setups and be able to introduce electrochemistry to our team. Thorough knowledge of supramolecular self-assembly / supramolecular polymers is required. See contact for instructions on preparing a good application. Deadline is extended.

Thomas awarded ATRAE grant!

Our project “POLIMERIZACION SUPRAMOLECULAR DISIPATIVA SIN DESPERDICIOS” was awarded by the Spanish ministry of science, innovation and universities. And we even got a nice personal letter from the minister (Ms. Diana Morant Ripoll)!

Lab moved to Madrid!

The lab relocated from Strasbourg (France) to Madrid (Spain) as of 1 December 2024. We will continue to work on Systems Chemistry, Supramolecular polymers, (magnetic) microfluidics, and chiral separation! Many positions opening up soon.

Thomas Awarded an ERC Consolidator

Congratulations to Prof. Hermans on receiving the prestigious ERC Consolidator grant!

This five-year grant will finance our group’s research in developing micrometer-scale supramolecular robots, showing complex interactions and self-organization similar to that of living systems. Drawing inspiration from the dynamic properties of microtubules, this project promises to make significant contributions to the field of Systems Chemistry, specifically focusing on out-of-equilibrium self-assembly driven by chemical reaction networks. We are thrilled to see this project come to life!
